A friend has a young 18 month old rottweiler who had a cruciate ligament repair op some 7 weeks ago. She has made excellent progress but the vet wants to carry out a repair on the other leg in a couple of weeks.
Her owner is concerned that it is too soon, and wants to wait another few months. The bitch appears to be walking quite soundly, and she is worried that it is too soon for the bitch to be putting all her weight on the repaired leg when the operation is carried out.
Has anyone else had this op carried out so soon?

The Vet should know best but your friend pays the bill, so if she is not happy she should ask for another opionion before deciding what to do. Jackie H
Not quite the same but a friend had one hip replaced in December and the other at the beginning of February and is fine - very sore to start with as the good hip seemed to make the bad one worse but pleased she had them both done so close.

My experience of cruciate ligament is that one of my english springer spaniels ruptured both his legs about 10 months apart. On each occasion it took at least 6 months to recover fully and return to normal, so I would say that yes I feel this is far to short a time lapse between both operations. As my vet recommended the first 8 weeks after the op to have complete rest and only toilet trips in the garden on a lead. He was only a pup when he ruptured it the first time as well so I can fully sympathise. He is now fine but I keep his weight down and he has glucosamine supplements. Hope this helps.

Thanks everybody for your comments, interesting to view 2 different points of view. I must admit I felt it was too soon, as rotties are heavily built, and I feel it would too much strain on the repaired leg, but will pass on the comments.
