Topic Dog Boards / General / What size bed?
- By TJD [gb] Date 30.04.02 15:13 UTC
Bailey is now 5 months old and has nearly grown out of his bed we bought him as a little puppy and we want to get him a new bed (hard plastic type) and I wanted to know what size is best to get for a labrador?

Thanks

Tracy

If you know how big his daddy was in weight & length....use that for your estimation. Do you want him to have an adult sized bed or just one that will work for the next 3 or 4 months?? If you do get him adult size, you can always fill the gaps with old towels & pillows until he grows into it :D

Hi

I want to get an adult size one now and he has lots of nice jumpers to pad it out with as we did that with the one he has got now when he was only 8 weeks old (seems like forever ago now :().

Anyway i have never met his dad as he didn't live with the breeder all I know about him size wise was he was about an inch taller than his dam. So not much help!!:d

Okaaayyy....how big was the dam??? :D :D Was she at the small, medium, or large end of the breed standards? Can you call up your breeder & ask?

Actually Bailey should be around 50% of his fullgrown size around now. You could double him & add a little more for comfort. Personally, I think it's difficult to find something that will be too large for him when he reaches adult. My girls are small, but they use med/large sized dog beds to stretch out on. Lazing around is what a dog does best :D
Hope this helps give you some ideas .. good luck

I have spoken to the breeder already - i called him to find out what size bed he has for the dam - but guess what she doesn't have a bed just a blanket!:D Never even thought of asking him how big she is!

Thanks for the reply -i might just take him with me & let him pick his own bed!:D :D :D

I think most labs prefer a 4'6 double divan, preferably with a nice clean quilt, and two people already in it.

thought they prefer it when one of the pillows has been vacated:d :d

Thistle is one of the smallish gundog type labs and she's 10 months old. She seems to have more or less stopped growing. She has one of those hard plastic Pedigree beds (with a cosy bit of vet bed in it). I have just measured it for you (my teenage daughter had that 'Mum you need to get out more' look on her face) and it is 35inches/89 cms wide. I think that would be fine for your Labby.
