Topic Dog Boards / Health / MY GSD is pooing crop circles
- By shanti [gb] Date 11.11.05 15:59 UTC
I have an 8 month old Gsd, she is a beautiful long coated sable, growing well, very healthy, good appetite. I have tried her on lots of different foods in the hope that the end result would be a nice healthy log, but all I get are crop circles!! She poohs, then moves a bit, then poohs and moves a bit more and so on until she has finished, the end result being a nightmare to clean up.
Does anybody else have experience of this, is there anything I could feed her on that might stop it? We've done Burns, Aurtarky, and a number of other good completes, any thoughts anyone?

I think it's more of a behaviour than a diet problem - are the poos normal in consistency (firm and even in size)?

My Springer bitch has perfectly normal poo, but still insists on laying me a paper trail.  I've never been worried about it enough to try and break the habit, but it has been suggested I could use clicker training to stop her......

Poos are not terribly firm, but not runny either, I'm sure if she kept still to do it I would end up with a reasonable dollop, might introduce a few raw bones to see if it helps, but don't want to put too much weight on her! as she looks really good at the moment

My Cav puppy does that in the park - she doesn't want to stop running around long enough to do it properly!! :-D

My springer does that.  He shuffles from one foot to the other moving forward at the same time.  Although his first choice is deep in a hedge, he can't do it in one place!

My am cocker 'walks' when he poohs. But i think thats a thrait where am cockers are concerned, but interestingly enough, his poohs are solid when in the garden, but when he goes out for a walk they are soft!!!! Strange LOL

Well at least they don't have to put it on top of anything :D
My last dog used to have to find a place to put it high enough to make it a sculpture   At a push he'd use a tree trunk but as it always fell to the ground this wasn't really to his liking.  He'd hang on for ages till he found a nice gate post to deposit it on   OH Well, saved me bending down to pick it up :D :D :D

Hey Dil

I thought my dog was weird but he does that too.  He has to put his poos high up.  Why do you thing they do this, perhaps its a scenting thing, never had one do it before but I am pleased I am not alone.

echo,

We always thought he did it because he was so proud of it :D :D :D

My GSB bitch will do that, her poos are normal, nice and firm but she'll have 1 and then move a step and another comes out and then move another step and another comes out.  We can always tell which poos are Sheba's because they are dotted around in a circle.  :-D

if its any consolation, my friends rottie does the same. A plop here, shuffles a bit and another plop....You have to walk behind picking it up bit by bit!

My westie does this to. I thought it was only her did it untill now. SHe also insists on trying to drag me in to the very middle of the road to do her business which as you can imagine is not very safe. I have no idea why she wants to go in the very middle of the road i've never encouraged it. She's now starting to get used to going right next to the dog bin right near to my house which is much better but i always have to take at least 3 or 4 bags as does a bit here & there all round the bin.

One of mine also does them in a circle but she lays them so delicately they stand on end!!!!!!!  I think she's trying to recreate stone henge....

My American Cocker doesn't walk while he poos, but he tries to do as many as possible in the walk - I am getting expert at getting 2 or 3 efforts into 1 bag so as not to use up too many per walk! :-D  My Cavalier is another one to poo as high as possible - we pass a low wall on our walk and he nearly always sticks his bum up there to go!!
