Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / toilet training forgotten!

Hi, I am hoping someone out there can help me!
Jess is a 3 year old labrador, who we got as a puppy and toilet trained (I thought) successfully. However, over the last few months, we've increasingly been greeted by "accidents" on the kitchen floor in the morning. Sometimes this is just wee, sometimes stools and sometimes both. She seems to know that this is not clever as on the mornings she's done it, rather than waking us with her usual kisses, she stays on her bed and looks decidedly guilty!(She's a lab who's true to her breed and just loves to please!)

Her routine is to go out first thing in the morning and last thing at night specifically for the loo, plus I work from home, usually working outside, so she's out with me off and on throughout the day. This seemed to work fine for the last year or two, but now it's all gone to pot.

I thought it may be down to her eating habits. She has dried food twice a day, morning and teatime, as she has a sensitive tummy, but I found she was "picking" at it thoughout the day, so I assumed maybe her body clock had gone awry as she wasn't eating at regular times. So, for the last few weeks, we've been adding rice, chicken juice etc to her food to make her eat it all in one go, then removing her bowl. This worked at getting her to eat a full meal at specific mealtimes, but hasn't helped with the night time accidents as I hoped it might.

Any thoughts, comments or advice from other owners out there would be a great help.

Thanks!

Allison.

Its unusual to have a Labrador thats picky with food though Ive found when rehoming labs through rescue  that some can be, labradors usually eat with gusto and in quick time :) I am not sure how to deal with that though .
I do hear that nature diet is quite good its  very tasty and doesnt have additives in it,it can be fed with some biscuit in it.
The toilet thing is another tricky subject as she could be missing you at night and its a seperation thing,or it could be medical.
I would suggest that you give a small meal in the morning say a handful of biscuits then feed her around 4.30 pm leaving plenty of time for her to digest the food and then take her out last thing .
If she is picking in the day Ive heard that removing uneaten food is best  you could try feeding  a smaller amount  because if she is nibbling all day this could affect toileting as well.
A check up with the Vet could also help as they normally have a nurse who offers help and advice  freel of charge on diet.

Has she seen a vet and has he ruled out a urinary infection?
