whereabouts in N.Wales are you? are you looking for general ringcraft or for a specific breed...looking at your name I'm guessing you have a G.S.D.
I live in N.Wales and have G.S.D.'s.

Hi, I also live in Chester, there aren't really any take place in Chester itself, there are some in North Wales, N W Gundog is at the end of this month, Wrexham do a couple of open shows a year held at Plas Coch in Newi, you have Maghull and Merseyside held in Kirkby but I think you have missed the close date for this one., there is one in Whitchurch in January I think (I have the schedule and info somehwere if you want the info) There are shows held at Stockport - Goyt Valley Club and I have been to lots of shows in Crewe and Stoke on Trent, I get sent all the schedules as I have enetered htese shows before.
Ringcraft classes always have local schedules and I think I've relpied to a previous post of yours before about Fardon ringcraft, I know they always have a table with schedules on for helping yourself to..... If you want any further info then just let me know, I'm in work at the moment but found a booklet with all kinds of useful numbers in it the other day....

There is an Open Show at Whitchurch in December, is that any where near you ?
Most of the Open shows are on the 'Prodogs' website.

- By setspan [gb] Date 11.11.05 23:46 UTC

- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 12.11.05 09:19 UTC
Attending ringcraft certainly helps - to give your dog a fair chance he needs to be used to having strangers 'go over' him, and be happy to move on a loose lead with other dogs.
- By em 11 [gb] Date 12.11.05 09:20 UTC
do u think i should go to the shows if i have do done this
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 12.11.05 09:21 UTC
Have you been to any shows as a spectator to see what you and your dog would need to do?
- By em 11 [gb] Date 12.11.05 09:21 UTC
no
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 12.11.05 09:27 UTC
Then your best bet is to go and spectate at a few to get a feel for the routine. Ask some people there (after they've been judged, not before!) how your breed is groomed for the ring, explaining that you're thinking of showing your dog. I certainly wouldn't enter until I knew a little more about it.

Certainly take your dog to ringcraft to practice before you throw yourself in at the deep end.
- By em 11 [gb] Date 12.11.05 09:28 UTC
ok thanks
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 12.11.05 10:46 UTC
Think of it as being like a test - you wouldn't take a GCSE in anything without first studying the subject, would you?
- By Anwen [gb] Date 12.11.05 10:50 UTC
Em, there is a ringcraft class every Thursday night at Shotton. If you go there, you can pick up schedules for local shows & learn about what to do!
- By Goldmali Date 12.11.05 13:42 UTC
Hi Em
Noticed your dogs were Goldens, you need to have a word with somebody (your dogs' breeder is usually a very good bet) about learning how to trim them as well, as Goldens need a fair bit of coat preparation before a show. You need to thin out the fur on the chest, trim the tail to shape, the feet, the trousers on the hindlegs, and the edges of the ears. :)
- By em 11 [gb] Date 12.11.05 14:10 UTC
ok thanks
my breeder stoped breding now amber was her last
Shotton is that near chester
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 12.11.05 14:38 UTC
Also Goldens seem to be a stacked breed, so you and your dog would need to learn how to do that.
- By em 11 [gb] Date 12.11.05 14:50 UTC
wots that
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 12.11.05 14:57 UTC
Stacking is where the handler holds the dog in the correct 'stand' position. There's a picture of a Golden being stacked on this page (Crufts 2002). You might find that whole site informative.
- By em 11 [gb] Date 12.11.05 15:07 UTC
wow they are gd
so what are they doing
the legs are back
whats else ?
- By Anwen [gb] Date 12.11.05 16:08 UTC
Shotton - between Queensferry & Connah's Quay, about 3 mins from the A55 westbound.
You'll have to find your way round if you're going to start showing! :D
- By em 11 [gb] Date 12.11.05 16:19 UTC
yea i am
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 12.11.05 18:18 UTC
It's not just that the legs are back -  you'll notice that the ideal is for the front legs to be absolutely vertical and parallel, and the hind leg from the toes to the hock joint to be vertical, again with legs parallel - not one further forward than the other. The tail is held out level with the spine and the head held at the ideal angle to not make the neck look stuffy ...

What else are they doing? That's what you need to talk to the experts at ringcraft about!

Have you joined any of the breed clubs? Apart from this one, there are many more listed at the bottom of the Breed Standard which is the blueprint your dog will be judged against.
- By em 11 [gb] Date 12.11.05 19:02 UTC
which is the blueprint your dog will be judged against.
i think lucky has  nt got a charge

all the ringcraft i know of are 2 far

- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 12.11.05 19:25 UTC
I don't know what you mean about Lucky not having a charge - could you explain?

The Kennel Club can help you with the details of your nearest Ringcraft club if you telephone 0870 6066750.
- By em 11 [gb] Date 12.11.05 19:36 UTC
lucky the name of my dog
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 12.11.05 20:48 UTC
I guessed that - it was the not having a 'charge' that confused me! ;)

When I was showing my nearest ringcraft classes were a half-hour's drive away, and at 9pm! We didn't get home till nearly 11pm! But it's certainly worthwhile making the effort, especially in numerically strong breeds like labradors, dalmatians, cavaliers and Goldens - to be honest you don't really stand a chance otherwise. Competition is very strong.
- By em 11 [gb] Date 12.11.05 20:56 UTC
ok
thanks
( on yr post u have faces where they from )
- By LucyD [gb] Date 14.11.05 19:45 UTC
I think they mean wouldn't have a 'chance'. :-)
- By setspan [gb] Date 12.11.05 19:33 UTC
Em, it may be worth just going to any of the ring crafts near you, even if you only go once or twice. I travel 30 miles at times to go to a good ringcraft (obviously I wouldn't take the time nor the effort if the ringcraft I was going to wasn't any good) and I have learned an awful lot about showing from ringcraft, I still go from time to time now.

Personally I wouldn't like to turn up at even an open show with a dog who'd not been to a ringcraft class, especially with your breed as the classes tend to be quite large. There's more to the class you enter than just the judging part, there's the waiting in the ring for your dog to be seen and some dogs can get bored and just bark while in there. Some dogs can be completely overwhelmed by the whole show experience, ringcraft gives the dog an idea what the show will be like with regards the different dogs it will meet, the noises it will hear not to mention the confined spaces you get at some venues.

I would definately try to get to a ringcraft class if you can
- By em 11 [gb] Date 12.11.05 19:39 UTC
ok i try a class
thanks
