Hi. I have a 2 1/2 year old male and a 4 month old female miniature wire hair dachshund. She will be due her first season at about 6 months old. I have no intention to breed them but don't really want to get either of them neutered. Are there any alternatives or can anyone give me any advice regarding the matter? If neutering is the only option can anyone suggest which would be best to neuter? The male is quite a nervous little thing.

You could try boarding him out during her season (which will last about 28 days ;) ) have you family he could go to?
or you could book him into kennels.
It is possible to chemically castrate (temporary) this can be effective but your vet would be able to advise on this. As he is quite nervous castration might not be the best course for him anyway ;)

chemical castration is an option but even you did that.
if the bitch, is due in season. or, in season
it would be cruel for the dog, bitches give off
powerful smells !!! 'the dog will be frustrated'.
in my opinion the dog should 'move house' for two
weeks.until the bitch has passed her time
good luck

Tardac has been used on one of my boys while my girl was in season he never took any notice of her even when she got 'flirty' it worked for him but different people say different things and different dogs have different reactions to Tardac.

Hi there,
Why don't you want to neuter them? Are there any specific reasons, or is it that you just don't want to put them through the operation?
Cheers,
Patty
Thats difficult because "Where there is a way" their is a will......
Bitches can have their seasons delayed, but I dont have enough info on that. My vet always said to me, that the least you muck around with hormone injections the better. As it can ruin a dog and bitch. A bitch is more likely to have pyometra if she has these injections. So if you are not going to breed, what is the reason for not having them castrated ?
If the cost of castrating is too much their are organisations that will help cover the costs.
