my g.s.d is 18 month's old she has been diagnoised with pancreatitis, the vet has put her on eukanuba intestinal food and pancrex vet powder.
she has been on this for about 5 days the food does her good i'm not sure about the powder if it is suitable for her she seems to belch alot since she has been on the powder,i have also started to give half a packet of nature diet meat with her food to hide the powder thats the only way she will have this powder,i think all the vets are interested in is the £56 pound the powder costs.
her tli test was below 1 and the normal according to the vet is between 5 and 35,they never said when to come back for a check up or anything of any use can any one tell me if this is for life or if she will recover from this.

The pancrex vet powder, which my girl is on, is vital to replace the enzymes the pancreas doesn't produce with this condition. Her tli was -4.  What dosage is she on? Do you mix it in well and leave for 20 minutes (recommended)? I wouldn't have thought it was the powder making her belch, is she gulping her food maybe? And yes it is for life though things will improve with time, so I'm told :) I know how you must be feeling as my girl has epi - slightly different but nevertheless a life-long condition :(

PS I tried the link but unfortunately its a 'closed shop' now but I'm sure there must be other sites somewhere that you will find, and share your experiences with. I will have a look for you but if anyone else can help I'm sure they will be along soon :)

i have not been told to leave her food for twenty minutes all they said was give her 3 teaspoons of powder stir it in well.it seems that since she has been on the powder that just under her noise she seems to lick it a lot and she is drinking more water than ever she is going to the vets next tuesday for a check up.did you dog put any weight back on only mine lost 6 kg in 4 months the food which she is on she loves, ive just started to use the eukanuba intestinal tin food to add to her food so that the powder has somthing to stick to otherwise she will not have the powder, they say dogs are stupid far from it i say.

The thing is, putting the powder on dry food is not really much good as the enzymes need moisture to activate them. Naturediet ( I think thats what you said you add) will help a great deal as it is already moist. Kibble needs water adding to help soak the powder. Leaving it for 20 minutes will get the enzymes to work on the food, which is basically doing the 'digestive' work for you dog.
As for weight gain, I was lucky that Maddie had enough weight at 11 months (48kg ) to lose as she is now only 38kg BUT she has a lot of food intolerance too so its hard trying to put it back on with the limited foods she can have. But yours should have no problem though it will probably be a lot slower than normal. Can I ask, how is she in the 'poo' department? Three teaspoons seems an awful lot.  How much food is she having per meal? How many meals per day?
Sorry I haven't had time to look for the sites, I will do it now and get back to you.

her  poo is just about back to normal, she gets fed twice a day 250 grams of eukanuba and half a tin in of eukanuba meat.twice a day.the vet said 3 teaspoons of powder but on the tub it says half a teaspoon per 100grams of food,i hope the knows what she is doing,i thinkk i could be because she had a low tli but then what do i know.

Here are some question and answers you might find of interest.

Sorry I can't help more but Pancreatitis and Exocrine Pancreatic Insuffiency  (what my girl has) are totally different conditions and I don't want to mislead you in any way :( So please have a look at these sites and hopefully you will find some answers.

My bitch has EPI and is on PANCREX V capsules, which I twist open and sprinkle the powder onto some wet food and mix it well in.  The reason for this is that the powder may result in irritation of the skin and mouth.  She was originally on 2 each meal but is now on just 1 each meal and is fed twice a day.  I know with the capsules that each dose containsthe same units of lipase, amylase and free protease.

Because this medicine does not require a prescription you can just go to your local chemist and they will get it for you and I found by doing this I saved a good £10 on 300 capsules.

forgot to say she is fed dry food, was on Burns but have now switched to the new Vitalin Senior/Lite which is half the price and is suiting her very well.  It is a salmon and potato base.
