I have a bassett hound puppy that,s just over 6 months old, she is excessively greedy and is always on the look-out for food, and will eat almost anything...is this natural for the breed, she has now started to jump up at table tops trying to steal food...does anyone know how i can overcome this problem as its becomming increasingly difficult to prepare food...Thank- you Martin.

Sounds par for the course for dogs - they're scavengers by nature and will eat if food's available.

Your best course of action is to keep her out of the kitchen when you're preparing food, probably best done by having a babygate across the doorway so she can still see you.

It's as normal as a dog having 4 legs and barking! Be thankful you haven't got a Tibetan Mastiff - my pup's about 5' 5" standing on his back legs and he can basically reach anything that he fancies that isn't put away. 99% of dogs are oportunistic and love their food, so anything in reach is fair game. You'll have to teach him that it's not acceptable behaviour when you're around and also keep temptation out of his way when you aren't.
