Hi, I was wondering if it is unusal for my black lab to foam at the mouth when she has had alot of prolonged excercise. What I mean by prolonged is: a 30 minute walk or a run on the beach.

How old is she, and whereabouts in the world do you live? A healthy adult labrador in the UK in November should be able to cope with that exercise and then come back for more - after all, they're designed to be at a shoot all day.

When you say 'foams at the mouth' are you talking about a lot or just a smallish amount of slobber?  Our GR puppy (8 months) after having a loopy 5 mins on a walk through the woods (she just runs up and down :rolleyes: ) will quite often have slobber round her mouth which looks a little like foam.  This is quite normal and slobber is one of the joys? of GRs and labs :D

I am in the US on the east coast. She has tons and tons of energy. It doesn't happen all the time, but, the fact that it was happening concerned me. She is still a pup - 8  months old. I thought maybe it was the Gentle Leader that I had that goes around her mouth - thinking that she wasn't able to pant as normal - but when I let her run on the beach, it happened without the leader.

Is it slobber?  My dog goes manic when she goes for her walk.  She doesn't stop galloping all the time we are out so after 30 minutes, if it is warm she will slobber.  I thought it was quite normal as she doesn't do all the time, usually when it's warm.  Sometimes she finds someone to stand near to while she shakes it all over them :D

I guess it could be slobber. I am taking her to the beach today for a run and will really look at her mouth area when it happens again. Thanks to everyone for getting back to me!
