i have a 4 month old cross labrador who was fine till a couple of weeks ago when i noticed he was short of breath and frothing at the mouth after exercise. I took him to the vets and he had an x ray, he was diagnosed with an enlarged heart. He will be having an ecg in two weeks. Im really worried and upset because i wasn't expecting this at all as he was a really healthy dog. The vet has only told me a few details does anyone know of this condition if so can you please give me some help or advice.
Sorry to hear of your young dogs condition, my 13 year old has an enlarged heart and has had it now for about three years. He's on tablets and copes well and I'm sure your will to. All the best, chin up.
i'm sorry to hear about that. My friends 2 yr old golden retriever (Amber) has just been diagnosed with an enlarged heart. The vet has said that she'll need tablets to help the heart work more efficiently, but he said there's only two varieties of tablets-i don't know if thats the case, but.... Anyhoo, she's tried the first set of tablets, but they didn't work, so she's just started the alternative ones today-she goes back next week to be assessed again. Said friend has to make sure Amber doesn't over excert herself physically, but otherwise to treat as normal. Without wanting to put a dampener on things, if these tablets don't work, there isn't anything that can be done.
i posted on the health board about her (titled 'enlarged heart-any experience?'-its on page 2 at the mo), and a few people have responded with their experience-maybe have a look what they've said?
