I recently went on holiday and my breeder looked after my cavalier king charles spaniel bitch. My breeder asked me do i want her hair to be trimmed or clipped and i said no because she is a show dog. My breeder has her friend which is a proffesional groomer to come to her house on weekends to bath the dogs and brush their teeth etc. when i came back to england i went to collect my bitch and she looked very good and her hair looked really nice and long. But when i brushed her today i noticed that about 3 inches had been cut off on 1 side of the hair underneath the tail! my bitch is going to a show this month and im worried incase i get penalised in the show! do you think it will grow back quickly or do you think that i am being paranoid?
If it's not obviously noticeable I wouldn't worry. I had a different thing with my young dog last month. He'd somehow rubbed part of his face raw just under his eye which resulted in hair loss of around half an inch square which really stood out. I didn't know whether to put him in at two shows but decided if the judge liked him something like that shouldn't matter. He did well at the shows and even one judge just made the comment, "what's the little fella been up to then? Have we left part of him at home" to which I replied "Yep, but I bought the best bits with me". Go and do the show and don't worry about it.
Probably won't be noticeable with a long coated breed like Cavs. If they've left an obvious straight line you could try to 'untidy' it with thinning scissors, but to be honest it's probably best to leave it alone - possibly stand her on the other side if it is noticeable?
