Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help me?
I have an 18 wk old St bernard puppy, who suffered from worms a few weeks ago, she was wormed with Drontal plus and i found a few adult worms in her poops the day after.
She was squatting a lot - like she needed to pee but hardly anything wld come out?
So we took her to vets and asked if it could be related with roundworm? and she said it isnt likely, but it is possible that puppy has irritated digestive system from worms and gave her Amoxyillin for 5 days. Her urine was tested while we were there and no sign of infection?
The squatting cleared up and puppy was no longer squatting. this was just over 2 weeks ago.
The squatting has started again - so this time i got the Panacur 10% to worm her over the three days. She is meant to have her third day course today. No worms in her poops. BUT i have noticed some mucous and a very small amount of blood on her stools. Not all of them, just every now and then.
So i am thinking along the lines of colitis? Wld she squat with colitis?
I dont want to take her bk to the vets and them tell me she has nothing wrong and just give me more tablets. Or is this a urine infection? She sometimes squats 4/5 times when she goes out for her pee. The first time she pee and then the others hardly anything comes out?

Before all of this she was house trained, she didnt have any accidents and wld be very clean in the house? But of late, she has been peeing 3 or 4 times during the night - she was good before?

I will be taking her bk to vets any advice from dog owners wld be much appreciated?
Then I can go down to the vets with a little knowledge.

Thanks
Karlai

If she's trying to pee more often, and is weeing in the house then I'd say its a fair bet she has a urine infection ;)  she needs the vet asap as it is very painful (even tho they don't seem to let you know) and can cause kidney infection if left untreated.  Not sure about the bad poos but urine infection can cause diarrhoea too in some pups ;)   Are you positive that she hasn't eaten something she shouldn't?  this could affect the poos ;)

hi, went to vets this morning with a pee sample. this was tested with a multistick and came bk normal. vet didnt want to give tablets as we dont know whats wron so the urine has been sent off to lab to see if there is any bacterial infection. in the meantime i am to keep her on chicken and rice.
Vet says it MAY be because she has recently had a change of diet, onto Nutro.
So it may her digestive system not reacting to new food.

and once the results are bk we will know if there is any infections.

I hope for her sake it isn't a urine infection, its the one thing that I would demand antibiotics for immediately, anyone who's ever had cystitis would know how excruciating it is, and how ill it can make you feel ;)

i hope it isnt a urine infection.
I did ask vets for tablets but she tested the urine there and she says no sign of infection?
I am giving her bland diet and bio yoghurt and tonight she hasnt squatted?
She pee once and came bk in?
So hopefully she is getting better?
I do have cranberry tablets so i can try them too.
