Hi,
I was speaking to a woman earlier today, who was talking about her bitch being in season again, and was going to breed her, the only thing is that the dog had a litter April and they were kc registered, now if she does breed her dog again next week will she be able to register this litter as they would not be born until january next year,
any info would be apperciated,

regards

The kennel club will register the litter providing that the bitch is over a year old,and under 8 years,no more than 6 litters have been registered,so the answer is yes they will register the litter,if what i have said is true.

Hi SALLY35,
Thanks for the speedy reply, the bitch in question is about 3 years old and only had the one litter, i did not think they would have registered them, but thanks for the info, i will pass it on, but in my opinion i think it is a bit close between litters, do you not think so.

regards

I thought they would only register 1 litter a year up to a max of 6? can some one please say wether im right or wrong?

That rule only applies to licenced breeders. :(

That used to be the case, but I think it proved impossible to enforce - where do you sensibly draw the line - if a bitch has a litter 364 days after her last or if it is thought to be in the bitch's best interest to have another litter sooner rather than later (sometimes in the case of a singleton pup) etc. etc.

Personally I'd always allow at least one clear season between litters.

Im my opinion its abit much to have 1 litter straight after another, the bitch needs time to settle back down before she goes through that again. but not everyone thinks the same.

Me too,
I would definately allow a clear season aswell, before i took another litter from a bitch but if the KC  allows it .?

I think it depends very much on the bitch and size of first litter.  It was 2 years before I bred my bitch again because that was how long it took me to recover :D but she took her first, rather small, litter totally in her stride.  She never even lost her coat.  In addition her seasons were well spread out so a litter from the next season would have been born 10 or 11 months after the first, all in all I honestly don't think it would have compromised her health one bit and I think it is in recognition that this will sometimes be the case and that hobby breeders are less likely to abuse their bitches that the KC changed the rules to apply only to licenced breeders.
