Im soooo annoyed ive been contacted to day by what seemed a very nice women, she was enquiring about my stud dog, I politely explained that during hunting season my husband does not allow him to mate as he is a working dog and if she wanted to use him at a later date I would need to see the girl and all health screening documents ect, she then turned quite rude and said well you've mated the lady's dog down the street, trying to keep my cool I made it very clear that we had not and I asked her details of the supposed litter!!! She then gave me a telephone number, so I asked a friend to phone and make enquires, she got an address and time to go and view the litter, when we saw the pups they looked to be crosses or possibly sprocker's (cocker spaniel-Springer spaniel mix) it turns out the pups are registered with a different organisation other than the kennel club,( we will mention no names) and the breeder had copied my dogs pedigree, so to say I was angry was an understatement, I have as politely as I can made it clear I will be taking legal action agenised her, but what else can I do? And how can I stop her using my dogs name and pedigree?

What really gets me is how many times has this happened to me or other people and we just don't get to know about it?

You  could also lodge a complaint agains this other organisation that has acepted registration, and demand proof that they ahve recinded the registraion documents rfom the breeder or new owner.  I would also repiort the woman and organisation to trading standards for false advertising.

I'm glad that you are taking legal action.  This is a whole new ball game to me, I always expect people to be honest, we all know about bad breeding, puppy farmers, but this is someting different again.  I really, really, wish that the KC were the only official body to offer a pedigree, it would solve so many problems! And be so much easier to see if anyone was abusing the system.  I wish you luck, I know you can't swear on this forum. So all I will say is WHAT A CHEEK!:-(

Also glad to see that you are taking legal action against this company.  Am I right that this company is also associated with a certain kennels near where I live?
- By Isabel Date 29.10.05 19:27 UTC
I doubt action could be taken against the company as I am sure they will have a cop out saying they take the information given by the breeder in good faith.  It should be possible to bring action against the breeder though, many solicitors will give a free consultation regarding the feasability of a case.

Actually, Lyssa, the Kennel Club is the OFFICIAL body for registering pedigree dogs with all the breed societies and which is globally universally accepted - accept no alternatives ;)   No other country will accept any pedigree registration from "alternative" registration bodies.

Blimey, what a bloody cheek that woman has! Hope your action succeeds and teaches her a lesson!!!
- By Lyssa [gb] Date 29.10.05 19:36 UTC
It's quite scary though isn't it?  To think of all the times I have e-mailed an attachment of my dogs pedigrees to think that someone could copy them down and use them. :-0

I too would be absolutely LIVID!!!! & Looking into legal aspects of it. However the same thing happened to a friend of mine when an otterhound down the rd produced pups & her champion dog was quoted over the phone to puppy buyers, as the father!!!  She sent him a bill for the stud fee for £600 & threatened to take him to court!!!! He soon changed his story :)

It is covered in criminal law, at least one charge, deception with intent to defraud, gaining money by false pretences, I think there are a several charges which cover this.
The freind who went to see them wil be a witness though, so is the one who made the first call if you know who it is,is your freind willing, I would say nothing untill you have seen the police?

Thanks for all that advice, what gets me is they are trying to cash in on my dog, makes me wonder how many others have had this done and do not realise? It makes you mad when we have put all the love hard work into him, training him up to trail standards, we are also very strict who we let use him eye tests health test ect, i don't know this women maybe I turned her down for stud, so they have still used him in a scene? Ive taken advice, and dare not say too much yet but I will certainly let you all know what the out come is, thanks again!

Just to add, you can still go for the civil independant of the criminal, though if the police get involved they may ask you to wait with the civil, sub judicy and all that.

I know the reg you are ralking about, but we cannot talk about them on forums because they treatin legal action against people if they mention them in a bad way.I have looked into this reg and your case is'nt the first,so surley if this is happening a lot then the reg must be at fault. The other case I was looking at recently was someone in Scotland had fake papers for there Rothy, from a dead dog! This reg is nothing but a way for people to do this, and they no that.So shurly if this keeps happening then they must be found to be at fault. Here is the address for the site saying about the Rothies fakely reg'd:  www.artig.co.uk/fraudulent_pedigree.htm       and http://zorgsrotties.mysite.wanadoo_members.co.uk/page6.html          I would guess that there are a huge amount of falsely registerd dogs under this reg. Please report this reg as the more people that do so is the more case's of fraud pileing against them.At some stage action will have to be taken and the reg close'd down.Best of luck with you case, the cheek of those people.Breding crap litters under your dogs name, people would think he is not worth useing as the pups they would see are s**t.

Well........after reading that, I am going to take my dogs pedigrees OFF of the internet, I would be furious, and unless someone tells, you would have no idea of it going on.

Go for it girl, I cant believe the cheek of that woman.  Do everything you can to stop her. I have heard this before happening, as someone said once that he had a bitch of mine and was breeding bragging to puppy owners, when in fact she was nothing out of my breeding.  Also a friend of mine breeds cats and has the same problem. someone pinched the pedigree of her stud cat on line.  I wont put pedigrees on line any more.

I actually had some claim to have used my late BC stud dog on one of their KC reg bitches in the 1980's They got his ISDS Stud book number from the ISDS Stud book & of course the KC accept ISDS names etc for BC's They made a big mistake though as they forged my signature on the KC form & when my barristor served a summons on the KC for sight of the litter registration form He confirmed the signature wasn't mine & that my nanme was spelt wrong not only on the KC form for stud dog owner but in the signature ! They also got the numbers/owners for his parents wrong !

What happened ? The breeder lied to the KC & said she had been told by the stud dog she used owner that he was me & that the dog was mine. The KC cancelled the registrations but the breeder got away with it !
