Topic Dog Boards / General / Average Sleep for Puppy

Hi there, I wonder if anyone can give me a bit of general advice.

My Golden Retriever puppy is almost ten weeks old and I wondered just how much sleep on average she should be having a day.  She normally sleeps for approx 5 hours per night and her daily sleep has varied from 5.5 hours to nine hours.

Yesterday was the lowest (5.5) and she seemed to be particularly hyperactive and unruly (more so than normal puppy).  Today I'm trying to keep her a little calmer and she seems to be responding with longer sleep.

I just wondered if anyone could give me a bit of an average so that I can perhaps manage her sleep times a little better.

Many thanks
Angie

Hi
I don't think you could put an average time for sleep on a puppy (the same as you can't for a baby) but what we have done/are doing is putting Blade in his crate for certain periods through the day etc just to make sure he is resting (especially after he has eaten) he doesn't always sleep. but at least he is resting. also if he starts charging around the house like an idiot and won't calm down we do like a 10 min time out to calm him down as being a large breed isn't practical to have him charging around (more than the average pup) maybe someone else might have more experience with your breed, or better advice :-)
