Hope I spelt the above correctly. Do people have a preference for either. Have welpi but not tried the other stuff. Have 3 day olds and one little girl is not suckling so am syringe feeding her. Any more suggestions very much welcomed. Keep your fingers crossed for our little baby, she is very precious.
Thanks.
Sarah

I used Welpi on the litter I hand reared last Christmas, but I've also used Litterlac which seemed just as good.

I have used both. I think the Esbilac is actually the best product personally and they can supply you with a superb little bottle that is perfect for puppies in the first week or so. I am glad I had one in my emergency kit as the little human baby bottle even the premature one was too big for my 4oz pup.
I bottle fed one for 3 weeks on the Esbilac , it is quite a bit more expensive but I thought it was good and wouldn't scrimp anyway on a litter. THe first week I used Whelpi and felt she was struggling by then I had heard of the Esbilac so bought that in.
After a few weeks the pup wouldn't take it so I then went onto the Whelpi but by 4 weeks I felt that she here to stay so was not quite as worried putting her back on the whelpi , then the following week I started to wean her.
I recently replaced my emergency bottle and spare cans of the Esbilac and won't be without it now.
I think what made me get it was the great reports I heard on the digestion of the Esbilac over the Whelpi etc. Not sure if it is because it is ready made. I noticed a difference right away with the weight.
Thanks guys for that. Think I'll give the esbilac a go. Does the bottle come with it, or is it seperate?

I prefer Esbilac too. I hand reared a litter a couple of years ago after mum rejected them (tried to kill them actually). I started off with Welpi as that was what I had on hand but had problems with constipation. On the advice of US members of the breed ListServ I changed to Esbilac as soon as I could get it. The constipation problems cleared up at once and daily weight gain improved.
The stuff I used was the powdered form not the liquid. It was much easier to mix up then Whelpi and didn't have any powdery residue. I didn't get a bottle with the food but I prefer to use baby bottles with silicone ortodontic premature baby teats (though I keep a Catac handy in case I have a very tiny pup).

Spoil sport! All that money wasted on Rapid ..... :D
I use Whelpi but this time I have some Royal Canin in. It comes in a tub with bottle.
My friend used lactol and the pups died, and her kittens died. They found out the lactol had e-coli in it.
A lot of people use Carnation milk and swear by it. I have never picked up courage to use it on newborns, as I only use it on animals a bit older. Does anyone use Carnation milk on newborns with success and if so what doseage do you use ?

Hi Sarah
Hope your little one is doing well,I used Nutrolac for my litter,And found it to be very good.Mixed well,No lumps and could order online from animal health company. They are based in Essex.
We had a little precious girl in our litter,She was only 6oz.She is 7 1/2 months now and doing her gundog training with my 10 year old daugter.
Best wishes Linda
Hi Linda,
I haven't heard of Nutrolac before. What breed do you have? Our little girl is still very little. Although she has put on weight now. She seems to be suckling well most of the time now but has periods where she seems weaker.
I am worried that she is not passing faeces. Mum does a very good job of cleaning them all but she does seem to have a swollen abdomen. I have tried toileting her and she will wee but not pass any poo. I am still with them 24 hours and recording when she feeds but still worried sick about her.

Hi Sarah
Have you had the pups vet checked yet,Mine where i day old when i had the vet go over them and mum.He checked the back passage with a thermometer as some times it can be closed.

My lot are Labs,We were only keeping one pup,But i couldnt let this little girl go so we have two pups.

Thanks Debspaniel.
I am sorry I am not sure of your name.
I do know people have used Carnation milk on puppies, but I am just alittle bit scared to do so. I like to think of any pups we have getting the best.
