We picked up our little rescue girl today, shes 9 weeks. We have arthur who is 11 months, he is normally very confident but he does seem frightened of her. Im not too worried about it as I know it may take a while for them to get to know each other and learn boundaries (with my help and contant watch). We have a crate for her for night time and for time outs as she is recovering from a broken back leg.
The one thing I do need to know is why is arthur (older dog) slavering uncontrollably? Is it a sexual/hormonal thing? I dont think it is fear as when we first viewed the pup and I got back in the car he had the same reaction to the smell of her. Big shoe laces hanging out of the corner of his mouth.

Excitement. You often find dogs fascinated with the smell of very young pups, and of course bitches.
My dog is a slaverer to when around other dogs, i think he gets so engrossed in what his is doing he forgets to swallow! Can be quite embarrassing when the other dog walks away with a great big string of slobber on there head, none the less happy.
Lol :) my girl dose this to every dog she meets im always saying sorry to other doggy owners, none have minded up to now :)
Glad its not just me!!
No one we have met seems to have been bothered either, or at least they haven't said anything, should start carrying a hanky around with me really :).
I think he has finally stopped it now, but hes been at it all day. Hes still no very impressed with her. Shes in her crate at the moment yipping and crying to be let out but shes dog tired (excuse the pun), and Arthur needs a bit of time out from her.

After my GSD has been mothering any puppy we bring in they are always soaking wet through ;)
