hi i bought an alaskan malamute (bitch)back in may this year she is now 6months old,i was told she would be big about the size of an alsation and she isnt could you please tell me at what age do they stop growing as i intended on breeding her when she was old enough but have been told that no one will want to breed with a small malamute bitch, any help and advice will be appreciated,if you can help me please could you reply to my partners email address thankyou

Hi there :)

Mals can keep growing (and do) for quite a while, they are a slow maturing breed. The height range for a Malamute bitch is 58-66 cms ( 23-26 inches)

Bitches should not be bred from until at least 2 years of age though ....plus you will need to have her hip scored as well as eye tested.

Can I ask, did your breeder not put endorsements on the pedigree? ALL good breeders endorse pups so they can assess the bitch before she is used for breeding. This way, hopefully, bad examples of the breed won't be bred from :)
