Our 19 week Alaskan Malamute pup dont stop breaking wind and she stinks, we found it funny when she was younger but its getting beyond a joke now as my house permanently stinks with her. Its embarresing explaining to visiters sorry about the smell the pups got wind. My older cross rotti breaks wind very rarely so im guessing its her food we were thinking of changing her food over to the same as my other dogs as she is always leaving hers and trying to get to the older dogs the only worry about this i have is she is at the moment on hills science plan large puppy and my older dog is on an adult complete omega tasty so is she still a bit young to come of puppy food will it do any harm. Going back to my original reason to post, has anyone got an ideas why she has so much stinky wind and is their anything i could give her to help reduce it. ive read some where about giveing natural yoghurt would that maybe help. Any ideas would be gratefull if not do anyone know where we can purchase gas masks lol.
Hi
If you cant switch food yet, you could try either granulated charcoal (sprinkled on food) or charcoal biscuits. I have used both, as we have the same problem when Kai has had a bone. It doesnt stop the wind ( always better out than in :D ) but atleast the smell isnt there. :)

Got a Rott that cannot have any feed with sugar beet in for the same reason and Hills contains dried beet pulp so does Omega so if this is the cause changing may not work. There are lots of feeds that don't have beet but read the Very small print
Sat in a car in a torrential downpour with an umbrella shielding the window so that we could leave it wide open and not be gassed! Also had to make sure she followed us up stairs rather than other way round as if she went first her back end and our face was on a similar level....... Got a Gas mask!

Hills seems to have a very wide range of ingredients, any of which could be the cause of the problem ;) you may find that changing to a food with a lower number of ingredients helps you to pinpoint the cause :)
I would try James Wellbeloved/Burns puppy food as they have very few ingredients and none of the most usual triggers for indigestion/allergies, they are also easy to find :)

Thanks all... will be going to pets at home to day to get some james wellboloved/burns see how that goes. and tescos on the way back to stock up on airfreshners

JWB can give some dogs wind too. If you wish to feed it, try a variety that doesn't countain poultry as this seems to make things worse it you are a bit on the windy side. :)

All sorts of things can cause wind; basically anything that your dog finds it necessary to break down in his gut rather than in his stomach via the enzymes there, you can treat the symptom ie give charcoal, increase the digestive activity by adding digestive enzymes and probiotics or change the food to one that does not contain the offending ingredient.
