Can you tell me whether all breeders doc the dobermann puppies tails? Is it possible to purchase a puppy with a normal length tail? We want one as a family pet not a show dog, our very elderly dobermann recently died, she had a tail. Do all breeders doc tails or is it up to the individual breeder? I was under the impression that this procedure was no longer allowed? Any help would be appreciated.

It is still allowed at the moment anyway. Some people do and some people don't it just depends on the individual really.

Hi Claire, the docking of puppies tails is certainly not banned. There is a non docking Dobermann breeder here on the boards, perhaps she'll be along soon.

Hi,
If you go to www.dobermann.me.uk you will find someone there who will be able to help or advise you. You need to register but it's free and the lady who runs the site is very helpful.
Hope that helps.

Hi Claire
If you give me your details I may be able to help.
Hi Guest
I heard of a litter of nine week old undocked Dobes yesterday, I have a contact number if you would like to get in touch. I know nothing else about them and have not had time to contact the owners yet.
