Hi, please help.  My husband has surprised me with my own pug puppy for my birthday and I know absolutely about how to care for these wonderful little dogs.  I have not been able to find much really helpful information on the net and have been finding it difficult to get hold of books specifically for pugs.  Can someone point me in the right direction.

Many thanks for your help.

He probably had good intentions but I think it is a real shame that your husband chose a living creature, much less a dog, to surprise you with.  The best suggestion I can offer is to contact the breeder immediately and find out as much as you can about the pup and its requirements.  If that is not possible, and I fear any breeder that would sell a surprise puppy is not going to be one of the best , then you should contact The Pug Dog Club for information.  If having learnt about the breed and its needs you feel you are not going to be able to adequately meet them for the next 12-17 years I think the best thing is to return the pup sooner rather than later either to this rather inadequate breeder or the breed rescue and tell your husband to stick to Radley bag dogs in future :).

Hi Guest,

There are quite a lot of books on pugs, Amazon are a good source.  You will find that the majority are USA based, but the care info is relevant, regardless of where you live.  One of the best and most recent UK based books is The Complete Pug by Ellen S Brown,  there is also a very good one by Alison Mount, but can't tell you the exact tittle as I have loaned my copy to a friend. Hopefully, your pup has a caring breeder who will give as much info as you need.  However, if you get stuck please feel free to e-mail me direct -  gwen.oake@virgin.net   -  I will help out as much as pos. and if you want could let you have our puppy care booklet which has the basic pug care info in it.
bye
Gwen
