Hi there i need some help and advice regarding my 9 yrs old munsterlander dog.
he has always been slighlty aggressive and on the advice of his breeder some 7 years ago we had him castrated which calmed him down a little but redentley he has become worse and has bitten my 2 yrs old grandson and our youngest 13 yrs old son twice within the last week. it is a big problem for the family as we wouldnt want to have him put down but all the same we cannot risk leaving the children alone with him.  Our breeder did say she would take him back when i last spoke to her last year. what advice can you give me?

Kind regards

Elaine Eckart

Go and have him checked out via the vet, in particular ask for a full thyroid panel test.

Always rule out possible medical causes before tackling behaviour.

Get him checked out at the vets and no dog should be left with children.

It looks as though you found a really good breeder though who still tries to help you after all these years.  Hope it all gets sorted out for you no matter which way it happens.

Elaine, you haven't left any contact details so why don't you join? It's free.  ;)

I take it you aren't a member of the Large Munsterlander Breed Club? They have members in different areas that are willing to offer advise to people in situations like yourself. They can speak over the phone, come to your house or have you meet them at theirs, or in a local area, whichever is most convenient. The breed rescue is also there to give a helping hand if needed. This can also be over the phone. The dog does not have to go into rescue for them to help you.

I have had Munsters for nearly 16 years and suppose I've been lucky in that all of mine have loved people. I do have a 7 year old bitch that doesn't like very young children, but will accept them if she has a place to escape to. I also have a 5 year old grandson. He used to stand over her which she did not like. Perhaps your dog is the same? Without knowing more it's not easy to advise.

If you want to contact me my name is Linda Williamson. Please do contact me and I'll try to help. :)
