Topic Dog Boards / General / Dog Toys??

Hi, i was wondering if anyone could recommend some good dog toys. I cant seem to find any that will last very long. I have a few 'tough toy' rubber toys, but Tyson just bites chunks out of them. I have a few nylabones but he is managing to grind the ends off them too. Everything in Pets at Home seem to be squeeky or fluffy or too small, which he would destroy in minutes!! The only toy he has that is still in-tact is a tyre that he loves. :-)
So...does anyone have any ideas for a few new toys???? Thanks :D :D

Ahhhh you got me! We have the tyre intact the only thing that is! Apart from Kongs :(

What about kongs? or kongs with ropes so he can throw it around!
You can get toys made by kong company that bounce in different directions when they hit the ground- should be indestructable too!

Yeah, we have kongs too. He doesnt seem interested in them.......unless they have lovely treats inside. I only use his kongs to keep him occupied when i pop out to the shops or something. We have tried rope toys, but he just chews the rope till it frays and then eats all the threads!

My dogs do the same, the best thing to do is to only let him have those toys when outdoors. So that way you can keep throwing it,so he dose'nt get the chacce to destroy it.That is what I do,and it works.Or I just use things like leather balls I find outdoors and let the dogs destroy it,Very thick rope's,so it don't matter cause you find the stuff.I also use postal sacks, coal sacks(hessian) and other simaliar made sack's and the love them.I use these outdoors. But they go mad for them.I find them outside,so they are free.As you have said you use a tyre, put a rope aroud it,and when he's outdoors hang it on a brench, goal post or something and they love it.Put it at different heights each time,so heigh that their back leg are stiil touching the ground,so all four legs are on the ground or so they have to jump up to grab it.If it's to think to grab, tie some rope onto it and let it hand down a bit.I useually knot the rope. This way they still have to jump up but they grab the rope and hang on and swing about.Change the heights as I said, and it will keep your dog always wanting more.I also use a flirth poll for my dogs.A long stick with something tie'd onto it.Use a good lenght rope to tie the lure so you are able to swing it about.in the air and on the ground. The idea is for the dog to chase, and every once in a while you let the dog get the lure to keep it's interest. But this is another cheap and easy to build item that dogs love.

I know what you mean. I am sure these toys are designed not to last long so we have to keep buying more. Breeze loves plastic bottles, it can keep her entertained for ages. We also have a kong that has a rope on so she can fetch it back via the rope (she can't get a good grip on the kong itself.) :)

I got a very hard rubberball for kai, its a bit bigger than a tennis ball and has a little bell inside. Must have had it about a month now and its still in one piece. its about the only toy that is :D

Here's an idea we found by chance.  May not last any longer but might be cheaper.  Muffler hangers, for your car, are made of very hard rubber with various round, triangle and bar shaped holes that you can stuff treats in.  When we lost the first one (later found where poochie girl had dropped it into my dress winter boots.  LOL.  Took over a year to find, obviously I don't dress up to go out much, LOL, LOL), anyway, went to the nearest muffler shop and the owner just gave me one.  Ran it through the dishwasher to remove all the oil on it.

These things come in various shapes and sizes, roundish, diamond and about one inch thick.  One of ours is about 3 and 3/4 inches long by 2 inches wide in a diamond shape.  Another is bigger.  I fill one with hard cheese and it goes to the boarding kennel with poochie girl.  She loves it so much she can't wait to get into her boarding kennel and after a week she still has bits of cheese left in the deep spots.

Ok that has me baffled...

>>Muffler hangers, for your car

Nope sorry Jetstone.... i still cant work out what one of those is :D
Its not a device for the exhaust on the car is it???

Yes, in North America the 'muffler' is what we call the silencer.

Having spent a small fortune on every type of dog toy imaginable, Lola favours an old wellington boot to chew on  Oh well, whatever keeps her happy (and the furniture intact!!!) :D

Cant help you Zoe, i have the same problem, im just replacing rubber toys all the time, as after a while he starts to eat them, I am after another BIG rope toy as he accidently pee`d on the last one! lol Stupid dog! :D

Yep I use plastic bottles, toilet/kitchen roll tubes, tennis balls, kongs, laytex squeaky toys (not the harder ones, they seem to chew these easier).  Things that are cheap like bottles and tubes are great, they rip them and chew them, leave the remains and you can dispose of them - no expense spared LOL!

I have had numerous other toys but they normally get chewed up :(

Sorry for the language barrier.  Jeangenie has set you, and me, straight I think.  It's a rubbery thing that goes between the muffler/silencer and the body of the vehicle to prevent wear and noise from  metal to metal vibration.  Guess I should have said that.  Not being a car enthusiast I had no idea what it was myself, or even called here, but there was one lying under my car when I left work one day and I thought it had fallen off my own car.  The OH knew though.

I think maybe what you call  a muffler is what we call a scarf?  A long hunk of knitting to wrap around your throat to keep your neck warm?  Gee, wouldn't work very well in hard rubber would it?  LOL

Hi
I hope that this might help, having been through tons of different types of toys with my labrador I came across a make of toys by a company called pet stages.  The chew part is made from a strong rubber of different shapes for different chewers and inside the rubber is a rope or something like that.  They come in all different shapes and size and my dog loves these toys.  I don't know if I am allowed to email a link to the website or not but if you key in Pet Stages it should come up and you can take a look at the toys.
Good Luck

Good Luck and feel free to message me if you can't get on to the site and I will send you the url.
