Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / dalmations exercise?
- By Guest [gb] Date 24.10.05 12:54 UTC
When a dalmation becomes fully grown how much minimum and maximum exercise do they require?  Obviously they will need a least one walk a day but do they fit into your lifestyle easily? We are quite an active family and are considering this breed of dog and want to know more about them before we buy one.  Are they hyper dogs or will they settle indoors?
Any info appreciated thanks. . .

I don't own the breed but family do. They do seem to need quite a bit of exercise. I would suggest you phone dalmation rescue or visit them online - they will be able to advise you better.

They'll take as much as you can give them. Two walks a day, each with free running, is better than just one - I find they'll cope on a minimum of two half-hour walks but would prefer at least double that, especially in good weather! They generally follow you about the house 'helping' ;) with what you're doing, and keep you company when you're gardening. They're a very people-orientated breed, and some can be extremely needy about human company. My laid-back lot became very difficult during the foot-and-mouth outbreak when they were limited to lead exercise, even though we were covering 4 or 5 miles a day.
