My collie has been going lame on both of his legs for a couple of years now, the vet diagnosed a problem in his wrists but never confirmed it with an xray. We took him swimming and the problem went away but now it has come back, now he is only going lame on his right leg. It isn't necessarily after any exercise, but he does normally walk it out. I am thinking of getting an MRI or CT scan but don't really know what is involved, could anyone tell me please? Which would be more beneficial?
Thank you.

I don't know about dogs, but my son had an MRI scan recently and I was told the MRI is a more detailed version of the CT scan......

I hate to think how much it will cost you! I had an MRI on my brain on the NHS and to go private is about £450. Depending on the dog's condition, either might be a waste of time and money. Has your vet recommended it?
Did you stop taking him swimming or did it recur while he was still going swimming? I'm presuming you mean at a hydrotherapy pool? And have you tried a glucosamine supplement? If you haven't, I'd pop along to the health food shop and try it for a month. The health rack does good quality ones for dogs for about £5 for 90, though I've used the human ones with good effect on two different dogs.

Is he insured?
My dog was given Cortavet which the insurance has been paying out for, otherwise it would cost £23.41 per bottle of spray which you put on the food.It is a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement for the mainenance of healthy joints and Ive been told that it helps promote the repair of tendons and ligaments.1 bottle last me about 4-5 weeks.
Hope this helps.
