Hi, I am looking for a cavalier puppy, ideally a blenheim bitch as a companion for my 9 yr old collie cross. I am in Stockport and can travel, but dont want to go too far. I was offered a puppy in South Wales but decided the 4-5 hr car journey both ways would be too much, and dont want to put the puppy to the stress of such a long 1st journey! I know cavs are usually around £400-£500 and I can offer £200 now but am willing to pay more but will need a couple of months or so to save up!! If anyone is planning to breed in the new year then I am happy to wait.
Thank you
Caroline Andrews

Sorry, but can't think of why anyone would let you have a puppy for half price??? Maybe it would be better to save the money, then look, or book a puppy, save up some more for health costs etc. Sometimes if someone has a puppy you want you may have to travel?? How much was the pup in South Wales?? Were they going to let you have that one cheap?? If so it MIGHT have been a puppy farm! All the best, Dawn.
Hi,There is a litter in Neath in West Glamorgan,South Wales out of a Champion for sire, and the pups are for sale at £300 each.We have a beautiful tri from Pembrokeshire, the breeders only breed Cavs and she was £350.There are a lot of puppy farmers in Wales but there are a lot of genuine people also and the cost of pups in Wales is far cheaper than elsewhere, but apparently so is the cost of food and furniture :~)

Have these Cavalier pups had all the relevant health tests anastasia? I've had plenty of grooming clients save a couple of hundred pounds on the purchase of their pup, only to spend twice the money that they've saved at the Vet in the first 12 months! Wouldn't want this poster to go down that road! :)

Yes very sadly a Cavalier from parents AND grand parents not having had their relevant health tests and being old enough (parents at least 2 ½ when mated, preferably 3, grandparents over 5 and all still heart clear) etc aren't likely to live more than 5 or 6 years unless very lucky, I lose count of the number of people I meet who say they lost theirs at 5. :(
That would be up to the enquirer to ask as I wouldn't know - I am just passing on info about a litter I saw advertised. Most pups are far cheaper in Wales than over the border, and that is fact. You could pay £1000's and still get problems- every breed has it's weaknesses.

Of course. When your dealing with genetics, nothing is quite black and white, but people can reduce the risks by buying from experienced breders who health test their dogs! :)
And it's worth pointing out because many folks only buy a new companion for their family every 15 years or so and don't know that they should be looking for health tested (not cheap!) breeding, to stand a chance of a happy, healthy and 'reasonable to keep' puppy.
