Hi can anyone help. i have a bitch due to whelp 29th she is already showing signs of having them early she has lost the mucus plug this morning is there any chance the pups will survive if born this week thanks

According to The Book of the Bitch a litter can be born anytime between day 53 and day 72.

Is that any help?

The Book of the Bitch is available from Amazon, and is an absolute bible. :)

I have no experience of a dog whelping that early.  If mine come early they come about 4 days, and then they are fine.
I would have to call a vet for advice to be honest. Just to see if thats okay. As I am not a vet I would not like to make a firm judgement on whats going on.
The one thing I am going to say, are you sure she was mated on the day your thought she was ?  Their was not another dog lurking that could of got to her earlier ?  As that sounds really early to me.  Or did you just write the dates down wrong and in fact she is not as early as you think she is. Thats easily done you know.!

Anyway good luck and I hope all things work out well for you and your girl. Let us know how you got on.

PS

Sorry I forgot to add, maybe she is not in whelp as a lot of breeds loose a clear discharge, very stringy from 6 weeks. Some do and some dont. But it could be nothing at all to worry about.  I have seen stringy mucas hand to the floor.  Quite often after they have had a wee.
Anyway take care and hope all goes well

I make that 11 days early and I have heard of litters up to 8 days early being viable, so fingers crossed if she holds on a few more days you should be ok - keep us posted! :-)
