Hi,
Just wanted to ask a few questions if you don't mind. I have been asked to show my Dobe by a crufts judge (Marney mann) Think thats how you spell her name. She has weimaraner dogs. Mrney attends our local puppy class. I have never shown before but just wanted some advice really. I am going to a show with my Breeder at the Birmingham NEC Beg Dec. I won't be showing blade that time but his dad will be going (the breeders dog) do you know if I can still take blade if I am a spectator or is it just dogs being shown that are allowed in? Also just need to know any other main things about showing really.
Thanks
Em

I think the KC is on about changing the rules, but at the moment you can't take an unentered dog to a show. Main thing is to have fun! I'm sure your boy's breeder will be able to tell you all about entering shows etc...

Thanks phoebe, I know my breederis quite a busy bee, she has 5 dogs of her own and 4 kids to look after too so I don't like to bother too much!!

If you can find a local ringcraft class that would be great and will help you alot.  (if you mention your area people may know of one near you)  There you will learn how to stand and move your dog aswell as the finer points and you will also make friends in other breeds you can meet up with at shows :)

The show you are going to is LKA (Ladies Kennel ass.) So it is a big show.  Phone up the secretary (schedual can be found at http://www.highampress.co.uk for the secretary's details and ask if they are allowing spectator dogs :)

Most of all showing is about having fun! :)

Hi thanks Rox,
Yes that is the show, couldn't remember what it was called! We are near Reading (Burghfield) Berkshire.
Thanks for the web page, will ring them and see what they say as it will be hard to find someone to look after our boy for the day. We have just moved to this area and don't really know anybody yet.
Thanks
Em

Hi Em
I also show a dobe and will be at LKA, If you let me know his Kennel club name i'll look out for you.

Are you showing him or the breeder? one word of warning the green carpets are slippy so be prepared with paw wax.

Hi twodobies,
His dads name is  Prince pedro aegida (for Kikimora)  Blade is called Kikimora blade honour. Blade won't be showing at this event but will be in the future as he isn't quite old enough to go in the ring. I need to get a bit of knowledge too as i have never done this before. What are your dogs called?

Hi Em
I know of Prince pedro but only by seeing the breeders website, You wont be able to take your dog along as its only entered dogs at the moment.
It is hard work when you and the dog really arnt sure what to do in the ring but it will come, keep watching what the handlers are doing and then practice at home a little every day . Dobes are baited in the ring, i use liver or sausage but anything that will keep his attention is fine, some are stacked and others free stood so it depends on the dog really which way you can keep him still.

I will PM you more info so check your messages at top of screen.
