Read on another posting that someone has a seven week pup who has had first injection. Their vet says with this sort she can have second earlier than normal vaccine & they can start socialising her at ten - eleven weeks old. Since the question was about puppy groups does this mean that she will be OK mixing only with other pups who had first jab or that she has full immunity? Is this a new vaccine ? My vet is still talking about first jab at 8 weeks, second at 10 and fully protected at 12.

For a few years now I have been vaccinating puppies at 7 weeks and 10 weeks and getting them out very soon after that. Works well for me.

Went to A Seminar, and Intervet gave a talk on thier vaccines. The chap said that after the final jabs the dog would be able to go out after a week, ie 11 weeks. they recommend 10 weeks for final jab, with first no less than 2 weeks before, and no more than 4. So first jab at 6 to 8 weeks, 2nd at 10, out at 11!

My vet vaccinates at 10 weeks and 12 weeks with care taken for a further week after that. He feels that the Mothers immunity covers the pup until then and safer for pup to wait for this age.
Funny how they all have different views isn't it !

My vet vacinates at 8 and 10 weeks, out a little before 11 - i think that that 2 weeks extra makes all the difference. But there are other vets arouns that don't vacinate until the usual 10-12 weeks; always best to shop around!

I NEVER vaccinate my pups before ten weeks I beleive they carry some imunity form their Mother and you can vaccinate too soon,I lost a pup at ten months with parvo I had bought him from a friend who had done him at 6 (mild vaccine) 8 and twelve weeks as I say at ten months he became very poorly he was taken to the vets,I watched him be carried out and knew I would never see him again.
he died in the night.I was advised to ask the owners of his sister to blood test and her test came back imune dog,she had actualy been vaccinated later than him, when I asked the Vet and vaccine Co they said they carry imunity from their mum and they dont know how long for.So Now I dont ever do them to at least ten maybe twelve weeks.I'm afraid I do not have faith in boosters either.

I'm back on my pet hobby-horse again.

We always do antibody titres on the bitch before she's mated . This, allbeit some 5 months or so before the pups are due for their jab, will give you a reasonable idea of the levels of immunity they are receiving from her.

We then vaccinate the pups accordingly.

So, if ,for example, her parvo antibodies are very high, as happened with out last litter, the immunity she passes on will be very good, and will negate any early jabs which are put in for parvo. So later jabs are recommended in this instance.
