Topic Dog Boards / Health / Westie puppy~loose stools

Excuse graphic description of topic but I'm concerned about my 13 week old male Westie.
He's always had loose stools from when I got him from the breeder, even tho I was ising the food the breeder gave me.
I gradually changed him to Burns which I was told by vet was a good food but the stools were always ok in the morning and got looser as the day went on. Finally last week it was just a puddle all the time.
My pup is full of energy, has had all his shots, and is generally fit and healthy, so I rang the vet and we started him on Prescription I. D. food last Thursday. Things have improved but it's still (sorry about this) formed but very soft stools on the morning then really unformed by night.
I give him the food with a small teaspoon of natural yoghurt as he won't eat it dry.
I thought things would be near normal by now.
Has anyone any experience of this? He's sitting here looking at me as tho I have two heads to be worrying! All he wants to do is play!
Any advice very welcome.

Hi it could be that he's eating things off the floor through the day as puppies do.  It does sound like his diet though and your vet is trying to help, i'd just see how he goes, if he doesn't get no better i'd try wafcol hypoallerginic and see if that helps him.  Good luck

Warm regards Susan

Hi, i have a westie who had the identicle problem, got him home from the breeders and from there on, a nightmare, tried all sorts of diets as the vet suspected him to have a Gluton or Wheat alergy,he's now 11months old and has just started to become solid, although later in the day he's loose? i think its luck of the draw mine seems to be one with a weak stomach and the least change in food can set him off,the scottie who is one day younger has a constitution of a lion and an appetite to match no problems, there are both on Burns,i must admit it does send you crazy wondering what to feed them on,but im sure it will sort itself out eventually as long as he seems happy enough and he's not Dehidrating,he should be ok,just keep a close eye on him and speak to your vet if your uncertain, they can be a worry at times, but im sure all the vetrans and expeirenced owners will help us.
