Me & my girlfriend were thinking our purchasing a Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy, however we are not sure in we would be suitable candidates.

We both work during the day time, so the dog would be left at home for 3 hours in the morning, (until lunch time), and upto 4 hours in the afternoon.

From peoples experiences, would if be fair on the dog/puppy to be left alone for those durations -assuming of course that we exercise it thoroughly in the morning and moake up for lost socialisation in the evenings and weekends.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

IMO its not wise to leave a puppy for hours on its own, but a different story as the dog gets older. I work 9 til 2pm and have 2 adult dogs, both seem fine with it, but a puppy needs a lot of attention and training.

I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, but we bought our pup home on Saturday, and if I was working in the day, it would be awful! Sorry to put a dampner on your plans, but honestly it is hard work with being home all day, but if I couldn't be here, I think we would have some major hassle!

Why not think about getting an adult, no toilet training, and it would be happier than a pup to be left alone :D

Good luck with whatever you decide :D

It can be doen but like with a baby you need to put in some regular puppy care system.  Have you a relative or neighvour ylu can pay to provide daycare, especialy while it is small, as baby pups need to be fed foru times a day for a start, adn housetraining wil take forever unless someone is there to take pup out basically every half hour while it is awake and after it wakes, plays or has meals.

I have done this for my freinds who work win their dogs first year, gradully reducign the number of times I went in as the number of meals reduced and housetraining progressed.  Evben so they had to accept wquite a lot of damage to their house at aroudn teh 8 months to 12 months stage w2hen the dogs decided to amuse themselves.

The dogs are taken out before they go to work and as soon as they come hiome, and shoudl they choose to have an evening out then they will get someone to dog sit so the dogs are not alone too much.

Now that one of them is home all day with their baby the dogs get company all day, and she walks one and hubbie walks the other.
