I have a 10 month old bullmastiff, and he has developed spots around his mouth, which sometimes bleed.I've tried bathing them in salt water but it doesnt seem to do much work.
I've seen the vet who told me that its like acne ! I have treated him with the tablets that the vet gave me and they didn't seem to work either.....
Has anyone else had this problem ??? or has anyone got any suggestions of how to get rid of them ??? ( i am going back to the vet this week )
thanks
Some breeds get acne alot. I've seen quite a few Flatcoats with it, Pointers & Dobermanns too. They seem to grow out of it with maturity.
Just one of the joys of being a teenager! :)
My Flatcoat suffered from acne when she was as pup too, but as Hopevalley has said they do grow out of it. :D
Dont worry Kelly it will go in time, just bathe them when they erupt. I dont know if you've ever been on these websites but they're worth taking a look at here they are http://ukbullmastiffs.proboards46.com/index.cgi?action=loginhttp:

Malaseb shampoo and Neem oil are both good for treating skin ailments, its also worth mentioning that plastic feeding bowls and rubber toys can harbour some nasty bacterias that can worsen the acne condition, so if you have these, sterilise often.
All the best

The only thing that worked on my Dobermann was Aloe Vera gel applied to the affected area. For a while I also gave her the Aloe juice which I added to her food, thereby getting dosed from the inside and out. But like the other posters have said they do usually grow out of it.
