Abitch is usually in season for 3 weeks. All bitches are different, but to be on the safe side you should keep her away from male dogs for about 28 days as you don't know exactly when she will be ready for mating. It is usually when the bleeding stops or lessens or changes colour - but not always. You don't say how long your bitch has been bleeding but if it's much over 3 weeks, take her to the vet as she could have an serious infection.

My bitch had an horrendous first season which went on for six weeks!  I would take her for a checkup - although Grace's season went on forever, she was fine.  She's had odd hormones ever since!

Mine normally bleeds solidly for 21 days
