We had to take Sam to the vets this morning as he has been going downhill gradually over the past week. We came back from a lovely holiday in the Lake District where Sam had been in the water most days. He is lethargic and is even a bit stiff in his legs. He is also off his food, nothing specific but enough to worry us. He is also looking a bit thin and he is just not him self. The vet checked him over and he has got a high temperature so she gave him a couple of antibiotic injections and he is having blood tests tomorrow. She thinks it could be Leptosperosis but I'll let you know what the blood tests say. Has anyone dealt with this disease before I'd be grateful for some reassurance as right now I'm beside myself with worry. He has been through so much in his short life already.

Not had a dog with this but there are quite a few of my breed that have gone down with similar symptoms in the last 2 weeks, one has been quite ill with it and been at the vets for a couple of days.  It has been a worrying time for a number of owners and I wonder if this is a new virus.  None of the dogs have been anywhere near each other and are in different areas of the country.

You can vaccinate for Lepto.

Lepto is one of the diseases that is boostered against annually; it's also transmissable to man.

Sam has been vaccinated against it,but the vet still thinks thats what it could be.

Good news update. Sam has improved so much after having the antibiotic injections yesterday so much so that the vet thinks the blood tests are not necessary at the moment. He has been given a course of antibiotics and the vet will see him again next week.

Thanks for that link MM interesting reading. Sam is now back to normal but I'm a bit concerned that when he comes off the antibiotics it will start again but I shouldn't be worrying about that yet.  Sorry I didn't reply before but my OH has been working at home and he's been hogging the study.

Well Sams been to the vet this morning I thought he would get the all clear but apparently he still has a high temperature so he is back on antibiotics and has now had blood tests. I just wish he'd had the blood tests last week. The vet phoned just now and the tests they did in house(kidney and liver function) are fine so I'm just waiting for the ones that they send away. Fingers crossed that they're fine too.
