Topic Dog Boards / Health / Very hard stools then diarrhoea
- By xenaqueen [gb] Date 08.10.05 09:32 UTC
Hi.

I think a trip to the vets is on the cards, but I wondered if anybody else had come across this.
My old dog (11) is having toilet problems.  His stools went very very dry and hard this week and he was hardly passing anything at all, then this morning I have awoke to a kitchen floor covered in Diarrhoea with the most awful smell.
This has happened before in the past month.

Any advice/opinions please

This ofetn seems to happen with ours if they get constipated then the 'bit behind' is often rather soft. We dont normally have it to that extent or over that period of time but had always just put it down to  a bit of a back log.

The condition in humans is known medically as 'constipation with oveflow'.
Very descriptive.
My Golden tends to have a few days of normal 'hard' stools followed by a couple of days soft.
But he is growing well and happy so I shan't worry about it too much.
