i'm currently feeding my 7 and a half week old staffy four times a day plus milk twice a day, is this 2 much for the staffy to handle?

what r u feeding it i have a 14 week old staffy i've had him since he was 8 weeks he was th biggest of the litter. I tried him on tined pedegree chum for pups and wouln't eat it i all give him dried food as much as he can eat and milk twice a day and a bit of what ever me and mrs are eating he has not gone fat he's lookin really good and trim. my attitude is give em loads while they're young cus they need it to grow if they put too much fat on just reduce there food a little.

Don't ever feed a pup "as much as he can eat" as it can be VERY dangerous! Many puppies will just eat and eat until they get ill. At best it will cause diarrhoea and vomiting, at worst bloat and death. I have twice in my dog owning life had puppies manage to get into the food cupboard and help themselves -both nearly died. Even one of my adult dogs that once was given too much food and treats by a small child almost died (had to spend the night at the vets and it was touch and go, the vet gave him a 50/50 chance) as many dogs simply will not stop eating when full. (These 3 dogs mentioned were of 3 dfferent breeds so it isn't a case of just some breeds being greedy.)

There is no need whatsoever for a pup aged 7 weeks to have milk -they are by then weaned.

I advise my new owners to feed puppies to appetite so that there is a little food left over after the meal. It may be a breed thing as my breed is not inclined to greed. What do others do?

I advise that pups should be given three-quarters of an ounce of food daily (if feeding traditional meat & meal) per pound bodyweight. When adult that falls to half an ounce per pound.

Please don't give your dog cows milk.  It contains lactose, which dogs can't digest properly.  It often leads to loose stools and digestive problems.
