I am hoping someone could give us some genuine advice, my cousin has just given me the address to this web site as she thought it might help. Our beloved Cavalier KC-Doris aka Dotty whom was nearly 6 years old just suddendly died last night of heart failure, we are absolutely gutted, we rescued her when she was 3 years old. we are shocked, we decided to get an older dog as this was first time for us a family with a dog, but, not for me I have always had KC's as a young girl, this breed suits us so much, but we don't know what to do now, we would like to eventually get a puppy and rear it our way to be a big part of our family we are not into breeding or showing we just want a pet to love, but I have never had a puppy before and i work from 8.30-12 then 12.30-3 I pop home at dinner time we have a cage from Dotty, is it to early yet and would it be ok for us to leave a puppy...would appreciate any advice as you can imagine our hearts feel as though they have been ripped out. Does any know where we could get an excellent KC puppy in the east yorkshire area..
Thank you
Sharon K
There is a breeder in South Yorkshire on the breeders page of CD's. I got my puppy from him. I think he may be expecting puppies in October/November, but you'd have to contact him. Have a look on the breeders pages.
I'd just like to say how sorry i am that you've lost your little girl....my thoughts are with you right now.

So sorry to hear your news. Unfortunately heart problems are know in the breed. Having had the experience that you've had, please make sure that the next Cavalier that you welcome into your family is bred from heart tested parents, and preferably grandparents too. Responsible breeders do test so that families don't suffer like yours has.

I might suggest you try to take a few days off to help a new puppy settle in, but those hours sound ok to me. I'm happier if people who work have more than one dog (I work full time but come home at lunchtimes, and have 3 dogs) but they do seem to sleep all day when I am home with them, so it should be ok. Cavaliers do need lots of love, but it sounds like your new one will get plenty of that! Good luck finding a new one, and sorry to hear about your girl.
