What games do you play with your puppy??

We are doing the usual repetoire of cardboard chewing, fetching and tuggy at the moment but was wondering what else people do to entertain / tire out their pup!

Still waiting for our pup, but I am planning on frisbee :D Obviously just at first rolling it on the ground rather than throwing it, but I am still looking forward to it :D

I have lost of frisbees mouldring in the garden where tyey ahve got buried in the leaves.  Not something that has ever got an interest, seems to be liked most by collie and Terrier types though.

He's an Aussie Brainless so I think he will enjoy it, if not, I have a few other tricks up my sleeve!! ;)

Combine the cardboard distruction with a fetch by either letting pup see you place an object under upturned boxes, maybe one inside another, or for a clever pup let it scent it out.  Use boxes they have some chance of lifting though or it gets very frustrating :)  Small puppies can be given plastic bottles with a few grains of dry rice in to form a rattle which they seem to enjoy batting and rolling about but this needs supervising to make sure they are not able to open them and ingest bits.

I use tuggies, balls on rope(circular rope & straight rope), rope with knots at the end, old plastic bottles, squeaky & non squeaky balls etc you name it I use it !

Tuggie games are good & are a precursor to a retrieve my puppy learnt his retrieve in a day & will retrieve any I throw.

Oh he's a clever little s*d!

In three weeks he has managed to scale his way out of a 30" and 48" inch high puppy pen, work out sits as you pick the clicker up BEFORE you say the command, put his feet on the floor for the "Off" command just to get up on the sofa again so you say "off" again so he gets another treat etc etc. I like the box in a box though - should keep him busy for a while!!

My girl is a tuggie fanatic and will retrieve them - most of the time, but her favourite game is ball, not just throwing the ball and bringing it back but (and I'm not a footie player, so bear with me, but I think it's called this) dribbling, she loves trying to get the ball out from my feet and she usually succeeds.  She even resorts to a foul by wrapping her leg around mine and pulling! :D never been much, if ever, of a footie player though - lol.

Here are a few 'good manners' games that puppies love to play and it instals good habits from the beginning:

1.- Give and take is a very good
2.- fetch and running backwards to ensure the pup always comes back to you with items in his mouth (do not take the item at this point)
3.- leaving loads of toys and items down and becoming extremely excited and have a little game whenever he picks up one of his toys - completely ignore the pup if he picks up an item that is not his toy
4.- Becoming very animated and excited if the ups comes up to you out of the blue with one of his toys - having a little game with his new toy and giving it back to him to show off again.
5.- Toy on a string, so that you can run around and help the pup get rid of his energy and at the same time saving your hands and clothes!

Those are my core ones, there are more ofcourse.

All the best with pup!

Cheers,
Patty
