Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / staffy showing

hello

i am looking to buy a staffordshire bull terrier to show, and as it would be my first show dog (i have had my other staff for 10 years) i wanted to see what i should be looking for.

I went along to a show in stanton (as i only live in bury st edmunds) which was run by the local staffy club and had a realy good day.

I have a few questions which i hope that you all could clear up for me.  All the dogs that resembled my old boy didnt get placed even though he was from good stock at the time, and was alot like his dad....

How do you find out about dogs that are not listed in the catalogue?

Alot of the judges choices seemed not to go down to well outside the ring, or does eveyones opinion differ that widely?

In the special coloured class there were black ones, not brindle and white,(what is the criteria for a brindle and white class or was brindle and white a misprint) and the judge seemed to know who was going to win before they were judged (reading from a book???)  ???

I guess it can be hard judging but i am just a little confused.

hope you can help as i have just found the board and love it....( am going to see some pups in 2 weeks time so need all the help i can get as am unsure now as to what i should be choosing although temprement and health are upmost)

thanks for all your help

linda
