Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / doing toilet at night

I have a year old staffie bitch. She normaly sleeps in the kitchen in her cage with the cage door opened and a dog gate across the kitchen door.Almost all the time in the morning she has peed and and done a poo.She takes the poo into her bed as if trying to hide it.When she sleeps upstairs she will wait until she is taken out in the morning before she does the toilet.Any ideas why this is?
                                                                  Thanks in advance.

Ok, no real idea why, but to reassure you (maybe) my pup used to do strange things also with his poos, but grew out of it. Things like bringing it inside (maybe to show me how good he was and wanting a treat?!, going under tables, running inside-releaving himself- and going back outside again to play... etc)

I might have 'trained' it out of him by taking him out a lot (to poo) and rewarding that good behaviour, and maybe he just changed... (he used to eat his own a lot, and especially other dogs/cats/??? but doesnt anymore-at least i havnt caught him...)

I would close the crate door. If you know she can wait all night then let her out in the morning, but you may need to get up a little bit earlier than you normally would until she gets used to it. Then just increase the time gradually till you are getting up at your normal time again.
Make sure she has a wee last thing at night (before you go to bed)
maybe someone will have a better idea?
Em
