When you go over an Afghan how much body should they have?

I went over one yesterday and was shocked how thin it was.  I know it's a sighthound so realise that maybe they shouldn't have much body but the bones were protruding, especially the back hipbones.  Is this how they should be?

No. It sounds very thin, I know of a women who has 5 ( I think ) and they are in amazing condition, shes a groomer. They are lean but no bones should be protruding, it sounds like this one was quite under weight. I always admire them, so graceful but I couldn't deal with all the grooming it must be alot of hard work!

Do you know the owner? Maybe you could politely say something to them.....

It's a tricky one :)

The ribs should be well covered and you should be able to feel tha last two ribs.  Hips bones ARE prominent, so most people think they are too thin, but this is a feature of the breed.

Hrm, no expert but given they are closely related to teh Saluki then yes.... last few ribs, id have thought a few vertebrae where the back arches, and the hip bones SHOULD protrude..

With my saluki,(x grey, but mostly saluki) which is easier as she is short coated, if i can see a 'W' of hip bone, backbone and then hipbone again she is too thin, if i can just see the hip bones but between them is smooth, then she is ok.

I knew that they should be fairly prominent, but my I think that I could put my hands on top of each a number of times before I reached the height of the hip bone.  He looked really solid but I couldn't believe what wasn't under the coat!
