Topic Dog Boards / Health / Yuck, ticks!

I've owned a dog for 8 years and she's never had a tick until today.
I think it's a tick anyway, I can't say I've seen many. I moved the body out of the way slightly and I was sure I saw something wiggling so I ran away! I'm very squeamish when it comes to bugs. It's on her elbow.
What can I do about it?
Well not me, I'm not going near the thing *shudders* I'll have to wait until my parents get back!

I'm generally not squeamish about anything except spiders so this is quite a shock to me! Yuck.

Oops, I didn't see there was already a recent post about it

Panic over, it fell off :D
I found it crawling along the carpet and got dad to dispose of it, lol.

She has a mark on her elbow though where it bit her. Should I put something on this or will it be ok?

Ugh I still feel like my skin's crawling!

LOL lovely little critters aint they :D

You could put a little bit of savlon on the area... rubbed in well :)

She has another one
I've read dabbing surgical spirit on it can work, and we have some so I'll probably try that.
She hasn't had any for 8 years and then 2 in one day!!

Yup I did that on the one that fell off :)

I don't have a tick remover, but I'm going to get one tomorrow :)

i found 2 near kai's eye.... removed them and about a week later found the one i'd missed, it had fallen off, kai picked it up and it exploded all over the kitchen floor yukky! :D
