I was pleased today to see a large article in the Daily Mail about the celebrity fashion accessory; the Chihuahua and other toy breeds. Much to my (pleasant!) surprise it was a good article, it pointed out very important facts such as "teacups" being nothing but the runts of the litter that should NOT be aimed for or bred from. Very nice to see an article like this in a national newspaper where it is more likely to be read by the kind of person considering a toy dog just to be fashionable -those kind of people aren't very likely to read the dog papers and dog magazines.

It's about time a National paper did this rather than show the cutsie wootsie rubbish stuff that they usually spout!  Well dont to the Daily Mail and it's about time too.

The Mail are normally pretty good on canine and equine issues - although I did see one tabloid the other day mentioning lab x ;) as a 'breed

I work in a vets and we have had quite a few chihuahua pups in in the last few weeks and the majority of the owners have been young girls ie It-girl wannabe's ;-). One was brought in by an older lady who was chuffed to bits as she has been waiting years for a "teacup chihuahua" and now she had her. I had to bite my tongue at that point LOL.

Glad to see a decent paper giving it coverage.

Hey dont diss chi owners I'm 23 but I've wanted a chihuahua since I was 9 :) A lot of chihuahua owners myself included have tried long and hard to inform the public about the dreaded "T" word ugh. It's nice to see the national press that made it so difficult for chihuahua owners for so long to actually inform people that what they were saying was *beep* also maybe the prices might start to come down pups are still being advertised for over £1500 unregistered, this breeding of small dogs has done nothing for the breed and has if anything produced more puppies with health problems. It would also be nice if I could walk down the street without being stopped 50 times to ask if Stitch he's almost 14 weeks and 2lbs is a "teacup" I like to inform them no he's a dog not china. I am completly for the chihuahua breed base expanding and we welcome new owners with open arms to learn about this amazing little dog, at the end of the day they are "dogs" no matter how tiny. Also if there are more owners vets might be better informed about them I have had to change vets twice due to no knowledge about the breed.I do worry for the pups brought as "fashion" accessories and where they will end up once the fad ends. So well done the daily mail all we need now are a few more papers to join in and inform the public.

About time they put 'T--c-p' in its proper place alongside the plates, cups and saucers in the crockery cupboard!
