I have a 8 month old JR and a 14 week old Rottie x GSD (who already weighs 2 stone) and if we have visitors they just will not stop leaping up at them and nipping in excitement  at them.  They are competeing for attention.
They never do this to my daughter and I when we return home.
My 5,3 and 1yr old grandchildren can't visit as they are terrified because the dogs jump and knock them flying and get thier faces.  I have tried giving them time out but they get very destructive in thier excitement and also very very noisy.  Can't shut them in the garden unattended as they are both stone eaters.
My elderly father has a blood problem and can't have pressure put on his skin as he bleeds underneath it and also his skin is very thin and if it cuts him he bleeds and bleeds.
Have tried having them on leads when people come round but they do sumersaults and again get so noisy.
They both sit and go down on command and are normally quite well behaved but with visitors they go deaf and everything they know goes out the window.

What about a crate or safety gate or muzzling them when in the garden so they can't eat stones until they are trained to behave.
I'm not saying mine behave, one goes in the kitchen behind the safety gate.and the other one usually does as shes told but if not or a visitor who isn't comfortable around dogs, she will go in the garden.

Ideally you need to train the 2 dogs separately but I suspect this is not going to be possible.

Use safety gates, crates etc to manage the situation. Never allow fuss if the dog is jumping up :)
Time outs are in fact very effective, but you need to ensure it's done correctly -ie only for a very short time (2 minutes) then slightly longer, then for maybe half an hour ... this will need to be continued for some time, but does work well. Other rules need to be followed such as, time out immediately, no nagging or cross words, no chasing to get the dog's collar, etc.
