Your friend should get the vet to check over bitch and puppies, to make sure all is well.

A certain amount of greenish discharge is normal for 24 hours, then it changes to a reddish-brown discharge for several weeks. I wouldn't be happy with a blackish discharge, though. In all events a sensible person gets the bitch and litter vet-checked within 24 hours of birth.
