we are looking for a labrador bitch puppy for around christmastime and cannot find an expecting breeder.

It might be worth bearing in mind, that breeders may say that they will not home puppies until January. Christmas is the very worst time to bring a puppy into the home.

It's an awful time of year to get a pup as well, house training is really difficult when the weather is at its worst and you have to stand outside in cold and rain (knowing the English weather!) time and time again waiting for a puppy to "perform".
