Took Patch to vet Thur he was taking a long time to urinate.   Thought it would mean some tablets but when I went for him I was told he has a mass pressing on his bladder and prognosis is poor.  He was castrated there and then and I have to take him back Thu/Fri when I fully expect to have the awful decision to make.   He is 10 but I had hoped that we could grow old together when I fully retire next year sadly it looks unlikely as vet doesnt think an op is on. Must finish cannot see properly.   Gordon  found this site by luck

So sorry to hear your news Gordon - but you may be looking too much on the black side - wait until you see the vet.   In the meantime, enjoy Patch.

Regards

Hi Gordon,  I'm glad you found the forum - sometimes it helps to put our thoughts and feelings out to dog loving strangers more easily than to close family and friends.

I'm very sorry to hear about Patch and praying that he has a better prognosis when he visits the vet again.  In the meantime, enjoy him, cuddle him and spoil him rotten.  God forbid that you need to make the decision to let him go but if that is what turns out to be in his best interests, know that you have done the kindest and bravest thing for him.

I sincerely hope it will not come to that - our dogs are very precious members of our lives and we all wish they could live with us forever.  I know it's hard but try and stay positive, there's always someone here to talk to if you need it.

Sending gentle {{{hugs}}} to Patch.
God Bless, Teri :)

Gordon, how is Patch in himself? He might still be a bit sore after his 'family jewels' removed. Just see how it goes and take it day by day. Most importantly try to be positive and spend as much happy, quality time with Patch as possible.

Fingers crossed for you and Patch - please let us know what happens. There are many of us - probably most of us - here that have gone through just what you're going through and have every sympathy.

Hi Gordon
It must have been a shock for you, discovering that Patch's problem was more serious than you were expecting.
But it may be premature to be thinking of having him put to sleep. I wouldn't have thought the vet would have subjected him to the castration if he thought the situation was hopeless.  I know you wouldn't want Patch to suffer but just take things a step at a time until you know what his chances are.

Hope the outlook is better than first thought.
