Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / chicken bones

Hi
I know there is a subject already covering this, but i just had to ask. Ive always been told that chicken bones are a NO-NO, to give to dogs whether cooked or raw, due to splintering but i've been reading alot of posts on here from people saying they give their dogs these regulary. Could you please clear this up?? is it ok to feed chicen bones or not ??
Thanks

Given raw, they're safe. Given cooked, they could be lethal.

My puppy has raw chicken wings regularly and he's not died yet. My mum nearly did thought when she saw me giving them to him! She thought the same as you and many people do. When they are raw, the bones are much more malleable, but cooking makes them hard and brittle as the collagen is leached out leaving just the calcium. Plus it destroys a lot of the nutritional benefits feeding raw bones has.
