Ok this might be a long post.
I am not planning to get another dog until Gemma goes. the only thing is she is 8 1/2 years old, is a Rottie cross and seems to be getting very old very quickly. I hope that she lives for a very long time yet, but as she is getting older it has made me think.
Beano my Am cocker cannot be left on his own wthout another dog or human for company. Which i knew when I got him 2 years ago.I can leave him all day when at work with Gemma and no problems, but if I leave him outside for 5 mins on his own he starts howling!!!!!! This does not cause me a problem as he is always with Gemma or if not he is with me, and can be left in the car/van on his own no problem.
Has anyone had any experience of this where one dog is very dependant on another dog, the undependant one goes, and you are left with a dog that cannot be left on their own. Now this would be ok in the cooler months as could take Beano with me where ever and leave him in the car/ van no problem, and could leave him at mums, but this is not an option in the summer months or long term!!!
Just wondering what everyone else ahs done. I know it took me 4 months from deciding to get another dog to getting Beano, so i know that it will take that long if not longer.
I hate thinking about it, its just things a few people have said in the past few months, and it has been playing on my mind.
Also me and Gemma have been through more together than most people go through in their life time and I know i will be distraught at the time as I cant imagine life without her. But I dont want to have to make a decision at the time when I will not be able to make a logical one!!!
i hasten to add I do hope I have another 8 years with her, but being a heavy built rottie cross I have been told the life expectancy is about 10 :( :( So that means I have about 1 1/2 years left with her.
Not a nice subject i know but would rather work this out in a logical frame of mind if you see what i mean.
Lea :)
