I was wondering if any of you guys have owned/do own French Bulldogs. I am interested in adding one to the family, but want to get as much info beforehand as I can, as I realise that getting any dog is a big commitment. Have looked on various websites, they all say that they have respiratory problems, but is this in reality as big a problem as I am now imagining it to be, or are they just trying to prepare you for the worst? Also one website said that they need quite a bit of exercise, whilst others have said that they don't need much. I have got a couple of phone numbers of breeders from websites, but am a bit scared of ringing out of the blue in case I'm percieved to be bothering them. Also, could anyone tell me what sort of price I might be looking at paying as I am aware that they are not cheap and envisage me saving for a few months. oh, and how much can I realistically expect to pay for food, insurance etc. Any info from someone with first hand experience would be much appreciated.

If you ring the breed club up they will be more than happy to answer any questions you have and to give you advice on the breed, costs, health issues ect. This is what I did when I was looking into my chosen breed and the breed club was so helpfull - they gave me all the pros and cons of the breed and pointed me in the right direction on how to go about visiting people with the breed so I could see them in the flesh and be really sure that it was the breed for me.
